Question
What alliance of Greek city-states helped bring greater defense and greater trade to the Aegean Sea area

Answer
Hello,

this alliance of Greek city-states  was the Delian league, a confederacy  under the leadership of Athens, founded in 478 BC  during the Greco-Persian wars.

Its  name derives from its official meeting place, the island of Delos, in the Aegean Sea.

This league invited  all Greeks to join to protect themselves from Persia.

Representatives of all member states, each with equal vote, met annually at Delos, where the league’s treasury was kept in the temple of Apollo, until Pericles removed it to Athens in 454 BC.

The Athenians were in fact the commanders in chief and decided which states were to provide ships or money, which was controlled by ten Athenian treasurers.

With all that wealth, Athens began to invest in large building projects -such as the Acropolis-, in drama, in art, and in crafts.
