Question
Why are the buildings and artifacts so important to historians?

Answer
Hello,

The ancient buildings and artefacts are so important to historians and scholars simply because both buildings and artefacts  are the mirror of past times as they both reflect the state of things, historical moment and truth, architectural knowledge, i.e. the art and science of designing and erecting buildings or making artefacts just in that time when buildings have been erected or artefacts have been made.

In short, ancient buildings and artefacts are a kind of voice of the past which enlighten the historians by bringing to their attention many interesting pieces of information about the age they have been made.

For example, the Flavian amphitheatre in Rome, also known as Coliseum, erected  AD 70 – 82 under the emperors Vespasian, Titus and Domitian, shows not only greatness the Roman architects  had achieved, but also the customs of the Romans at that time.

Best regards,
Maria
