Ancient/Classical History/Burial Story

Question
Hi,

I'm really sorry but I'm trying to remember something I read about a great leader/general's burial. I remember very little other than the fact that he asked for a few specific requests in order to demonstrate what was important and not to his citizens. I think one of the requests was to have his gold and jewels placed on the streets for the citizens to take or something. I'm so sorry for the vagueness. If you know this story and who it was I would be really grateful.

Answer
GOLD BARS
GOLD BARS

Hello, Jamal. Thanks for your question:

At the time of the great immigrations at the turn of the 19th c. and the teens, Jews in the Old Country (Germany) referred to America as "Der goldene medina"--the land of gold. I think the expression "the streets are paved with gold" became a saying then, but I'm not sure if it was Yiddish only, or here in English, or referring only to NYC.

That's it from here, my friend. Stay SAFE and make HEALTH your top priority.

I CAN answer almost any question that pertains to ANCIENT HISTORY! It would be a waste of time if I couldn't. I enjoy studying the people and their way of life that existed a very long time ago, especially in Greece and Rome. All history is human, my friends! Mysterious.
