Question
I am researching Homer an the ancient Greeks for a art history class and want to know during what art period woudl the "heros of homer" be depicted in?

Thanks

Answer
Hello,

Although little is known about a blind poet called Homer, we can say that  he flourished in the 9th-8th century BC .

He  is certainly  the principal figure of ancient Greek literature as well as  the first European poet, as his heroes in the Iliad and the Odyssey express all kinds of feelings, from love to hate, from bravery to fear and cowardice, from longing for adventure to a peaceful way of life.

So, the heroes of Homer, from Achilles to Hector, from Agamemnon to Odysseus, from Ajax to Patroclus, supposedly belong to a period which ranges from 800 BC to 700 BC.
