QuestionCan you give me some information about Spartacus?
Oh and how many times did the rebels fight the Romans
AnswerHello again Jonny,
Actually I’ve already answered this question on 10/18/07 when you asked me if Spartacus was “an explorer”.
Here’s in fact my previous answer:
“Hello,
Spartacus is not an explorer at all, of course!!
He was a Thracian slave and gladiator who led a slave rebellion against Roman army in 73 BC.
This rebellion shook Italy in 73-71 BC for almost three years before being suppressed by the Roman legions.
Though no one knows how Spartacus died, he is believed to have fallen in a battle at the river Silarus (modern Sele River in Southern Italy), but his body was never identified.
Many of the slaves that were captured were crucified on the Appian Way and were left there so that other slaves would be warned what happened to rebellious slaves.”
This what I told you in my previous answer.
Therefore, as you can see, Spartacus and his companions, i.e. other slave gladiators who had rebelled under Spartacus, fought the Romans for almost three years from 73 BC to 71 BC when they were completely defeated by the Roman general Marcus Licinius Crassus in the battle of the River Silarus (71 BC).
Bye,
Maria
