Ancient/Classical History/Trojan horse

Question
Did the seige of Troy actually occur? Was it really ended with the Trojan horse? What evidence outside Homer's Illiad is there for the whole story?

Answer
Hello Chris,

A definite yes or not answer cannot be given at this time.  Whether Homer's account of the Trojan War is factual or not is still a hotly contested debate.  Schlieman who  claimed to have discovered the  “real” Troy destroyed  so much evidence that it has been a most difficult issue to come up with an incontrovertible answer.

See the following sites which present a variety of views on this topic….as to a final solution, I don't think this will be happening anytime soon.

Expertise

Along with teaching classical Literature for over thirty-eight years, I have also taught history of the Greco-Roman cultures. History and Mythology are, in my opinion, inseparable; it is necessary to have a background in both to have a clear understanding of both ends of the spectrum, the myth and the fact.

Experience

Thirty-eight years of teaching.
