Question
hey,
i was wondering if you knew the dates of the peplos from ancient greek clothing

Answer
Hello,

if you want to know the exact date when peplos began to be used, there is no answer as nobody knows such a date,of course!

Anyway we can say that the peplos, i.e. the body-length garment  worn by Greek women, dates back  to the years before 500 BC at least, i.e. before the 6th.century BC.

In fact, for example, on the East frieze of the Parthenon, the temple of the Greek goddess Athena built on the Acropolis of Athens under the leadership of Pericles during the Golden Age of Athens (460–430 BC) , i.e in the  5th century BC, we see a procession of girls who are bearing PEPLOS as a gift for Athena Polias, the goddess of wisdom and protector  of the city of Athens.

Best,
Maria
