Question
could you please help me find more sources about (ancient germanic culture at begining of our era) than just tacit germania of tacitus

Answer
Hello,

actually Tacitus’ ‘Germania’ (Germany) and ‘De Vita Iulii Agricolae (‘Life of Agricola’), but only in chapters 10–13,  are the chief historical sources for the culture of the Germans at beginning of our era, though also Caesar in his “Commentarii De Bello Gallico” (Commentaries On the Gallic War) previously told of them, describing their barbarity and warlikeness, but he tells little indeed.

Anyway we can mention other sources (three in Latin, one in Greek), although they are not so ample.

Here they are:

1-Pliny the Elder, ‘Naturalis Historia’ (Natural History), book 4, passim.

2-Pomponius Mela, 'De situ orbis' (A Description of the World), passim.

3-Ptolemy/ Claudius Ptolemaeus, 'Geographica'(Geography), book 10, passim.

Best regards,
Maria

-Pliny  the Elder (AD 23 – August 24, AD 79),

-Pomponius Mela wrote his Latin geography of the ancient world at the time of Emperor Claudius' invasion of Britain (AD 43-44). Nothing is known of the author except his name and birthplace ( maybe Tingentera in southern Spain).
