Ancient/Classical History/the ancients

Question
this is quite a broad question but even a sort of broad answer will do. i have now watched over 100 documentsaries on the ancients peoople: greeks, romans, egyptians, myas, incas, mesomotamians among others. now im starting to come to the conclusion that they were smarter or more deservign of credit than modern man. so many of things that have been invented in the last 200 years were only reinvented. there is even evidence of a computer. not the babbage claim. and in rome they even had a hospital with almost the exact same tools of today minus the fact they we have plastic. somehow they came from nowhere and decedided to create civilation. and there is much more they we still dont know as the library in alexandra most of the books have been destroyed. so all modern man has done is further refine many of there original ideas. then there is math. the are so many more examples.

well who is the more deserving of credit? thanking you in advance.

Answer
Hello Jii,

My opinion is the following:

Ancient man was more focused because the distractions of modern living did not plague them, therfore the ancients were more productive during their time whereas modern man has to worry about:

jobs
mortgages
children's education
college preparation
elder parents care and housing

etc etc etc .........

Modern man has also produced much in the way of scientific and technical developments.... so in all fairness both the ancients as well as modern man are deserving of credit.

Iru

Along with teaching classical Literature for over thirty-eight years, I have also taught history of the Greco-Roman cultures. History and Mythology are, in my opinion, inseparable; it is necessary to have a background in both to have a clear understanding of both ends of the spectrum, the myth and the fact.
