Question
In Pompeii how were some of the ruins were damaged in 1943

Answer
Hello,

Some of the ruins in Pompeii, the ancient city south of Naples destroyed by an eruption of Mount Vesuvius in 79 AD,were badly damaged by bombing in 1943.
Allied forces in fact dropped many bombs over Pompeii, believing the site to be a storage shelter for artillery. The result was a catastrophe for Pompeian archaeology with scores of  ancient Roman buildings, such as  for example the House of Venus and  The House of the Triclinium.
