Question
I have a friend who is getting married soon and wants to put an inscription on her fiance's wedding ring.  She would like it to be the Latin word for "believe", meaning, in effect, "Believe in us!" Could you tell me what the correct spelling would be under those circumstances and in that connotation?

Thanks

Answer
Hello,

Your friend can use the Latin word “Confide” just meaning "Believe"  in the sense of  "Believe in us!”, as you say.

Note that the Latin word “Confide” is the imperative, 2nd.person singular, of the verb CONFIDO (I believe / I trust ).

Best wishes,
Maria

Here's the pronunciation of CONFIDE:

-CON is pronounced like CON in "contact"

-FI like FI in "fidelity". Note that the stress stands on this Latin syllable.

-DE like DE in “fidelity”.
