Question
Hi. I'm the oldest of seven children. My mother grew up in an orphanage and
little is known except that she's Mediterranean.  I've read your answer on the
first born male but how do you translate... First born child (for either female
or neutral/neuter)? Please and thank you.

Answer
Hello,

I‘d like to help you, but your question is not clear at all, since you don’t say  into which language you want “First born child” to be translated.
Do you mean "Latin" or "Ancient Greek?

My field of expertise in fact covers Ancient Greek and Latin language(view my profile), but I really think that you do not want a Latin translation as this language would have nothing to do with the story of your mother, as Latin is today a dead language.

Anyway, if  you really want a translation of “First born child” (male/female) into Latin, here it is:

1-“Maior natu infans” with the comparative “maior”, if “First born child” is related to only two child.

2-“Maximus natu infans” with the superlative “Maximus” in the masculine, if it is related to a male child among many children.

3-“Maxima natu infans”, with the superlative “Maxima” in the feminine,  if it refers to a female child among many children.

As for Ancient Greek, I really don’t think you want “First born child” to be translated into Ancient Greek which is different from Modern Greek either in spelling or in pronunciation.

But I believe you are looking for a translation into Modern Greek, just because you talk about your mother who is perhaps Mediterranean.

So, for Modern Greek should you ask another expert  whose mother tongue is just Modern Greek.
See at: http://www.allexperts.com/el/Greek/

Finally note that Italians and Spanish also are Mediterranean peoples.

Good luck!
Maria
