Question I would like to know how "fate is fickle" translated. I could only find "fatum inconstans" I could find nothing for is. Thanks.
Darrell
Answer Hello,
“Fate is fickle” translates as follows:
1-Inconstans est fatum”
2-“Instabile est fatum”
3-“Volubile est fatum”.
All the above translations are correct, of course, and then you can choose the one you like better.
Best regards,
Maria

Note that:
-Fate = FATUM (nominative neuter, 2nd.declension)
-is = EST (from SUM, I am)
-fickle = INCONSTANS / INSTABILE / VOLUBILE ( all these adjectives are in the nominative neuter agreed with FATUM).
As you can see, Latin word order is different from English, as Latin is an inflected language where syntactical relationships are indicated by the endings of each term, not by the order of the words.
