Ancient Languages/Family Question for Translation
Expert: Maria - 7/17/2009
QuestionI was wondering how you would say "Family Forever" or if you
have a quote that pertains to family being the most
important thing in my life, over EVERYHING!. I would love to
hear or read your thoughts. I am making a portrait of my
family, the ones who have passed, and in the outer frame I
wanted to have a quote like this, this is for me, and means
a lot. Possibly a quote to do with death and family that you
might know would also be great. Thank you.
AnswerHello,
Actually there is no Latin quote which has to do with death and family together.
Therefore the only thing I can do is to translate your phrase “Family over Everything, Forever” which reads as follows:
“Ante omnia Familia, Semper! ” .
Best regards,
Maria

Note that:
-Family = FAMILIA (nominative case, 1st.declension)
-over = ANTE ( preposition which requires the accusative case)
-everything = OMNIA (accusative plural of OMNIS)
-forever = SEMPER (adverb)
As you can see, Latin word order can be different from English.
