Question
Hi Maria, I'm a firefighter and am designing a plaque to put up in our station. I'd like a latin transcription on it above the pics of our station/firefighters etc.

Could you please translate "Guardian Angel protect me always"

In my research I have found:

Angele Custos me semper protege

Can you confirm this?

Thank you,

Blake

Answer
Hello,

The translation “Angele Custos, me semper protege” - that I myself  sugggested to another questioner, as you can see at the links below - is correct, of course, and then you can definitely use it.

Note that ANGELE ( vocative case of ANGELUS, 2nd.declension) means “Angel”; CUSTOS (vocative, 3rd.declension) means “guardian”; PROTEGE (2nd.person singular, imperative of PROTEGO, I protect) corresponds to “protect”; ME (direct object, accusative of the pronoun) is “me”; SEMPER means “always”.

If on the contrary you want to translate "Guardian Angel protect us always", you must say “Angele Custos, nos semper protege" where NOS corrisponds to "us".

Best regards,
Maria
