Question
hello, i have been doing some research trying to find the correct way to translate this phrase from englsh to latin, and am having one heck of a time trying to make it gramatically correct. i want it for a Tattoo on my side. if you could help me out it would be great. the quote is-
" The loss of love is a terrible thing, they lie who say that death is worse. "

what i came up with for a translation is this--

" damnum of amor est a atrox res rei , qui dico a recubo quisnam narro ut nex est peior. "

if you could help me that would be GREAT!
thanks so much for your time !
im looking forward to hear from you :)

Answer
Hello,

first of all the translation "damnum of amor est a atrox res rei, qui dico a recubo quisnam narro ut nex est peior" is absolutely wrong!

Anyway I don't want to correct it simply because it is for a tattoo and I really don't like tattoos, as I wrote in my ‘Instructions to Questioner’ which appear on your "Ask a question page”.
There I wrote expressly: “No homework questions please NOR TATTOOS”.

So, I am sorry, but I have to reject this question as I really I do not like the dangerous practice of tattooing and then, as a volunteer expert of a 100% free site, I obviously can choose to decline translating any phrase / word for this purpose.

Anyway you can to “Vivat Latina!” at www.traditio.com/latin.htm where you can find a translation service at minimal fees.

Bye,
Maria
