Question
hi i am wanting to know the translation of the words love and fear from English to Latin any help with this would be great thanks.

Answer
Hello,

“love” translates as AMOR (nominative case, 3rd.declension), while “fear” corresponds to METUS (nominative case, 4th.declension) or TIMOR (nominative case, 3rd.declension).
As for the phrase “Love and fear”, it translates as “Amor et timor” or “Amor et metus”.

Please note that Latin is an inflected language where each word changes ending, according to its role in a sentence.
For example AMOR (nominative) means “love” as a subject; AMORIS (genitive) means “of love”; etc. as in Latin there are 5 declensions with 6 cases (nominative, genitive, dative, accusative, vocative, ablative).

Therefore it would need to know the context where you want to use “love” and “fear”.

Maria
