Question
What is the correct spelling in Italian of the quote from Canto III of the Inferno regarding the Gate to Hell:

Lasciate ogne speranza voi ch'entrate

Lasciate ogni speranza voi ch'intrate

Lasciate ogne speranza voi ch'intrate

Lasiate ongi speranza voi ch'entrate

I have seen this quote in all four ways.

Thank you.

Answer
Hello,

The correct spelling of this quote as we read it in Dante’s Divine comedy, Inferno, canto III, line 9, is “Lasciate ogni speranza, voi ch'entrate”, while the other versions are partly incorrect.

Best regards,
Maria

P.S.
Please note that  you should have asked  me such a question in the category “Italian language” at http://www.allexperts.com/ep/1584-25085/Italian-Language/Maria.htm, for Italian is not an ancient language, since it is spoken still today, and then it does not belong to this category of Ancient Languages.

Anyway,  I’ve answered your question, just because I am Italian, even though I should have declined answering  in the interests of AllExperts policy that states that each category has its specific matter and then in this category you should have asked only questions relating to Ancient Languages such as e.g. Latin and ancient Greek.
