Ancient Languages/Latin Translation from English for a business
Expert: Maria - 8/2/2011
QuestionI want the phrase To Be Called (Vocare has been used as a domain name, I would prefer to use the term The Classic Calling) or The Classic Voice translated into Latin. Referring to a Godly aspect to be called to do something or the voice of the Holy Spirit. I have seen your response To Serve, Caritas Servit - which could be very apt as well...
Thank you so much
AnswerHello,
“To Be Called“ referring to ‘a godly aspect to be called to do something or the voice of the Holy Spirit’, as you say, can be literally translated as “Vocari” (present infinitive, passive voice) or “Vocatio” just meaning “vocation” as divine call.
No other correct translation is possible.
Best regards,
Maria

Note that:
-VOCARI (present infinitive, passive voice of the verb VOCO, I call) = to be called
-VOCATIO (3rd.declension, feminine noun, nominative case)= calling, vocation (in ecclesiastical Latin)
As for “Caritas servit”, it means “ Love serves” where the term CARITAS means “divine love”.
