Question
How do you say the word grace? Found in the bible. In greek. And how is it pronounced correctly. How do you spell it? Thank you

Answer
Hello,

In the Greek Bible the word “grace” is χάρις (Greek letters) transliterated as cháris or kháris.

Here’s its pronunciation:

-χ transliterated as  ch/kh is pronounced as the aspirate “ch”  in Scottish “loch”

-ά transliterated as “á” is pronounced like the “a” in “father”.The accent falls on this vowel.

-ρ  transliterated as  “r” is pronounced like the “r” in “ring”

-ι transliterated as “i” is pronounced like the “i” in “issue”

-ς transliterated as “s” is pronounced like the “s” in “self”.

Note that:

-the Greek letter χ is named "chi".
-the Greek letter ά  is named "alpha"
-the Greel letter ρ is named "rho"
-the Greek letter ι is named "iota"
-the Greek letter ς is named "sigma"

Best regards,

Maria
