Ancient Languages/English to Latin word translation
Expert: Maria - 9/5/2006
QuestionHello, I was looking for a Latin equivalent of the word "alone" without any negative connotations attached to it (as in not implying loneliness or isolation, but simply neutral independence from a group).
The word would be describing a person and would be used on its own, not within a sentence.
Thanks for your time
Aaron
AnswerHello,
The Latin equivalent of the word "alone", without any negative connotations attached to it, is the adjective
“ solitarius” or “solus”.
For example:
-“Homo solitarius” means “ A (the) solitary man”.
- “Vivit solus “ means “He lives alone”.
If the Latin adjective must describe a person and is used on its own, you must say SOLITARIUS or SOLUS, when referring to a male person; SOLITARIA or SOLA, when referring to a female person.
Best regards,
Maria
