Ancient Languages/Latin and Greek words
Expert: Maria - 2/20/2006
QuestionDear Maria,
I am a professinoal wrestler on the independent circuit and am currently developing a new character. The character is inherently evil by nature, and extremely violent. I have been searching yet unable to find a word that would fit the chcaracter for a name. I was really wanting to use a ancient greek or latin word as a name. Something that would describe his natural violent and evil tendencies without being called "The Devil, Satan, Lucifer, or Beezlbub." Something that not everyone would know and would set my character apart from everything anyone in this business has seen or heard of. Can you please help me, the name of an inhertently evil diety-type figure from those times with the language of the era would be an intricate part of this characters development.
Thank you

AnswerHello,
If you want me to give you some names of inherently evil deities, I could suggest the following terms:
-TYPHON who in Greek mythology was a dragon who had one hundred heads and tongues, fire shot out of his eyes, and terrible cries bellowed from his throats.
-SETH or SET who was the God of darkness and evil in Egyptian Mythology.
-VETIS or VELTIS who was the underworld god of death and destruction in Etruscan mythology.
If on the contrary, you want know some adjectives/nouns that in Latin denote evil, violence and brute force, you could use one of the following terms:
Terribilis
Terror
Vindex
Vindicator
Violentus
Furor
Furiosus
Furens
Furibundus
Diabolus
Best,
Maria
