Question
How would you spell "courage" and "Patience" in ancient greek

Answer
Hello,

If you want to know the ancient Greek words for “courage” and “patience”, here they are:

-“andréia” or “ areté  (Courage).
Note that  “areté” means ‘courage’,’bravery’, ‘valour’,  but also ‘virtue’, ‘goodness’, ‘excellence’, while “andréia”  means expressly 'valour', 'courage', 'manliness', according to the context.

-“karterìa” or “ kartéresis”, “ hupomoné” (patience)
Note however that  “ hupomoné”  means ‘patience’ as ‘perseverance’, ‘endurance’, while “karterìa” or “ kartéresis” mean ‘patience’ as ‘endurance’, ‘self-control’, 'abstinence’, according to the context.

Finally I must point out that unfortunately the system does not allow the use of ancient Greek alphabet and diacritic marks and then I had to use Latin alphabet, i.e. a Latin transliteration of the Greek words.

Anyway, supposing that you can read Greek letters, here are the Greek words for ‘courage’ and ‘patience’.

Ανδρεία, αρετή (courage)

Καρτερία, καρτέρησις, υπομονή (patience)

All these Greek words are in the nominative case, of course.

Best,
Maria
