Question
dear maria,
i recently joined the united brotherhood of carpenters and joiners and they have a latin(i think) motto which reads "labor omnia vincit".  i was wondering if you may be able to help me with the meaning.
thanx, tim

Answer
Dear Tim,

Glad to help you.

Well, the Latin motto “Labor omnia vincit”,  which is a quotation from the great Roman poet Virgil (Georgics I, 145), means literally:

“Labour conquers all things “, that is:

“Labour overcomes all difficulties”.

Best regards
Maria
