Question
Dear Dr Levy,

I am a 52-year-old female. I was a practicing anesthesiologist in Pakistan. I cleared my USMLE in 1997, but I did not do my residency, as I was a caretaker for my mother who had Alzheimer’s. My mother expired last year and my kids are grown up. I am interested in doing my residency now. What are my chances of getting into a residency program at this late stage of my life?

Answer
Likely very small but that doesn't mean don't try. Anesthesiology is very competitive now so I can't see any residency program that would need to take a person at your age (but stranger things have happened).

Good Luck,
