Question
Hey doc. It's me again, it is tomorrow and i said i was not worried but i am very worried. Three things, dying, allergic reactions, and waking up during the op.
I am having an out patient anaesthesia and am very worried, sorry for bothering you with my problems.
I am 13st 7lbs 6ft great health+ i have not even seen or even spoken to my anesthesiologist before.....i am having my surgery in an unparalleled private ophthalmic surgery centre in london were all the surgeons from all over the country go for treatment
Sorry it is ironic that i have been watching the old holby city and a woman has just had an allergic reaction called hyperpyrexia but the young trainee has a drug problem.....it has spooked me! a day before i go in lol........thanx   rob

Answer
Hi Rob
You will be fine. The hyperpyrexia thing is very very rare and can be treated these days as we have a magic drug that cures it. You have had anaesthesia before so allergic reactions this time round are again extremely unlikely. Finally the waking up during the op bit is a common fear but again is very very rare. It can happen but tends to be in certain difficult anaesthetics - which yours isn't.
I suggest you stop watching medical programmes until your operation is over!
Kind regards
Dr Ian Jackson
