Question
I have been told that if you are allergic to egg, you should not be put under general anaesthetic -is this true?

Answer
Hi Criss
No it is not. Let your anaesthetist know about your allergy and they will ensure that you are fine. There is a very tenuous link between part of a protein found in eggs and the substance used to 'carry' one of the drugs we use to put you to sleep called propofol.
IF you have a very severe reaction to eggs then the anaesthetist will consider what other agents to use.
Kind regards
