Anesthesiology/anaesthetist

Question
I am in the UK, so which route do I take after leaving high school in order to
become an anaesthetist. Is there any certain subjects I should take in year 9
options that would help me follow this career of my dreams. I am already
going to take a GCSE in biology, chemistry and physics because I am taking
a triple science option. Anything else you could suggest? Thanks

Answer
Hi Sophie
You need to work at getting the grades to get into Medical School. The subjects you are doing are fine. Nottingham run a good course about getting into Med School which is worth thinking about. These days you need to look at doing some work in the community as part of your holidays etc to show yourself as 'worthwhile'.
Once through medical school you can then look at jobs that point you towards Anaesthesia. Worth doing some 'work experience' if you can arrange it.
All the best
