Anesthesiology/anesthesia for surgery in 3 days

Question
thank you for your time.  I am having a LAVH 2/19.  I had pre-op 2/14 and I am very disappointed that I didn't get to talk to the anesthesiologist.  They told me he/she would see me right before surgery.  I have extreme difficulty with blown veins and wanted to discuss this.  I have requested that only the anesthesiologist start the IV because a nurse has never been successful on the first, second or even third attempt.  I'm very anxious now to go on 2/19 and have to deal with more "attitude" because I requested this.  Please give me any suggestions.  Thanks Sherry

Answer
You shouldn't have to deal with attitude but I also have to tell you that anesthesiologists are not miracle workers when it comes to IVs. We also miss them, so don't assume that an anesthesiologist will find it on the first try. As for seeing you right before surgery, this is also normal (assuming you have no major medical problems. At that time you can discuss your issues with him/her and you can certainly refuse the nurse attempting the IV if you choose.
