Question
how do you determine the dosage of sedatives to give the patient

Answer
Most dosing is done by weight but we also use common sense. If the calculation says to give 2 mg but after giving 1 mg the patient is already relaxed, we don't give more. Medicine is an art not a science. Dosing calculations are just a starting point.
