Anesthesiology/Knee scope

Question
I am a 27 year old that needs to have my knee scoped. I am very active running and playing softball, so I want to get back to my routine ASAP. The only problem is my husband and I have been trying to get pregnant, so the results are not in on if I am pg.  My question is, I know I can't have full anethesia while pg, but can a spinal tap or a local, or epideral be given to complete the surgery, without hurting the baby, if I am pregnant? I want to be in good health through out pregnancy, so want to get back to exercising. Thanks

being pregnant is not a contraindication to having a general anaesthetic. However I can understand that you might want to avoid the drugs involved just in case you are. It is very easy to do an arthroscopy under a spinal anaesthetic and some people do them under local anaesthesia. Discuss it with your anaesthetist when you meet them.
