Question
i had iv sedation yesterday for a colonoscopy today i have dry throat and sore neck glands is this an after efect

Answer
Mary
Patients are often given a drug called buscopan (Hyoscine) to help relax the bowel during this procedure. The side effects of this drug include giving you a dry mouth as it inhibits secretions from your salivary glands. This can lead to soreness in these glands afterwards. Keep drinking fluids and if the pain continues for longer than 48hrs go to see a doctor as they can become infected.
