Question
I am having a breast aug on sept 26th and I have been prescribed hydrocodone for my chronic back and cocxus issues. I have been taking these for about a year and a half now addicted to them i take a few more than i really need. What do i need to do before my surgery how will this issue affect my surgery what are the risks and what can i do to minimize risk

Answer
Hi there
You recognise there is an issue here - that is the first step. You need to seek help to wean yourself off the hydrocodone. In reality this should not be too difficult compared to many drugs due to their low strength. However I recognise it may well be difficult for you.
Breast augmentation in a lifestyle choice - you need to get your life sorted for the longterm.
However if you choose to ignore the above advice then it is important that you are honest with your surgeon so he/she knows about this issue. If you don't then they may underestimate the amount of analgesia you will need after the operation.
In the short term the main risk for you is discomfort and pain after the operation. In the longer term there are far more serious risks if you do not take steps to remove your dependence on these drugs.
I wish you all the best.
