Anesthesiology/propofol

Question
I am having my third colonoscopy. I am allergic to benzodiazephines so my doctor suggested the use of Propofol this time, with an anesthesiologist. I am afraid... and don't know what to expect or the safety of this drug. I am looking for some reassurance as I am very nervous.

Answer
Hi Rona
I would say that this is an excellent proposal. Propofol has a very good profile for sedation and in the hands of an anaesthetist is much safer than dosing with benzodiazepines by the person doing the colonoscopy. I would much rather have that than anything else.
Hope that puts your mind at rest.
Kind regards
