Question
HI, MY BROTHER WHO IS 62 HAS HAD 4 MAJOR SURGERIES IN 6 WEEKS. UPON HIS LAST SURGERY HE BECAME VERY DESPONDENT, NOT WANTING TO EAT, WONT TALK TO ANYONE.  IS THERE SUCH A THING AS AN ANESTHSIA OVERDOSE OR IS THIS A DEPRESSION FROM ALL HIS ILLNESSES AND SEEMING TO GIVE UP? THANK YOU

Answer
Hi Pam
Major surgery takes a lot of recovering from and your body goes into a phase of using up its own muscle mass to help the repairs. 4 Major surgeries in 6 weeks at the age of 62 is a lot for anyone to go through so I am not really surprised about how your brother feels.
Hopefully he is receiving help to get him through this as he needs to have a good diet to ensure he has the protein and energy his body needs.
Kind regards
Dr Ian Jackson
