Question
Hi,

I am 36 years old and I am scheduled for a Novasure surgery due to irregular bleeding.  The surgery is in 3 weeks and will take place at a surgical center, not a hospital.  I assume the anesthetic used is demerol and versed, although the doctor mentioned that I might need heavier sedation due to some other things they need to do "in there."  I have been seeing a weight loss doctor for a while and he had me taking phentermine.  I have heard this can interact with anesthesia.  If I taper off before the surgery, would it be okay?  What could happen to me?  Thank you.

Answer
This procedure is generally done under local with sedation. That should have no effect with Phetermine bu you should let your doctor (or anesthesiologist) know that you are taking it. Never taper drugs yourself. Only do it under a doctor's supervision.
