Question
When I was twelve, I had my tonsils removed and was given ether which made me very sick afterwards. Was the ether I was given a general anesthesia? When I was fifteen, I had a suspicious mole cut out and was given sodium pentathol. Is sodium pentathol a general anesthesia?

Answer
Both are general anesthesia. I have to assume that if you were given ether then you are very old because ether hasn't been used (in this country) in 40 years or more. Ether is known to cause nausea and is not used currently for numerous reasons. Pentothal is still used and is an excellent anesthetic.
