Anesthesiology/interested in a career in anesthesia

Question
Hi, I am a high school student who is soon to be graduating and going on to college.  My question I have is whether you feel a career in anesthesiology is satisfying.  I know that the pay is great, but is the work you do enjoyable?  Also, can you please explain to me a basic work week?  I am concerned that being an anesthesiologist would leave me without any time to enjoy myself and spend time with my son.  I was also wondering if the amount of years required to become certified is worth waiting.  Thank you for your time.

Answer
If you're going into the profession because of the income potential, don't. While income is good, you have to love what you do. The hours can be long and stressful but it is very rewarding. You will have time to spend with your family but less so during residency. It takes 4 yrs college, 4 yrs med school and 4 yrs anesthesia residency.
