Question
hi, i am due to have an operation on my elbow and wrist on monday 18th, as a day case, although i will be having an anesthetic. I am desperately trying to get over a cough and cold, cold is not to bad but i still have coughing fits, it is very loose, but i am quite wheezy, Will they still operate. Generally i am in good health, but i am a smoker.

Answer
You should be OK by then as long as your cold settles and doesn't develop into a chest infection. Coughing can be an issue for a few weeks after a cold. I would suggest stopping smoking until the operation as that will improve things - though it may not feel like it!
Kind regards
