Question
I am having arthroscopic surgery on my knee. They will be using a spinal anesthesia with sedation. I have heard that hypotension and hypertension can occur as a side effect. How dangerous is this when it occurs?

thank you

Answer
Generally neither occurs. Occasionally you can get some hypotension but is temporary and limited. Hypertension is much rarer. It is not dangerous of you are otherwise healthy. It either case, the anesthesiologist will quickly notice it and treat you accordingly.
