Anesthesiology/Sleepiness/Dizziness after surgery

Question
Dear Dr. Levy,

I had gall bladder surgery 3 days ago and I am still experiencing a great deal of tiredness and dizziness. Is this from the anesthesia and is it normal to still feel this way a few days later?

Thank you,
Jennifer

Answer
It is not unusual but it is probably related to the surgery and not the anesthesia (which usually wears off completely after 24 hrs). Make sure to drink plenty of fluids and if it gets worse, go back to your surgeon.
