Anesthesiology/Surgery for pectus

Question
Hi,

Didn't know who to write to.
I have this slight of pectus excavatum which is an area between the rib cage that concaves(inwards), i have read some treatments and it is recommended to have a metal bar fitted inside the chest. If the bar is the only method to be used to straighten the chest out... will the bar be inside the chest for life? and how much this treatment/surgery cost in the UK?
Im in my late 20's btw.

Thank You.

Answer
Hi there
I have never seen anyone having this condition treated but I have no doubt that it is possible to manage and it may well require the use of a metal internal fixation device. However this is totally outside my expertise an an anaesthetist - you need to speak to a thoracic surgeon.
