Question
Can you tell me what is required to become a professor of anesthesiology?

Answer
First your need to be an anesthesiologist. Then you need to work at an academic hospital. Then you need to rise up through the ranks of Assistant Professor, Associate Professor and then Professor. It usually takes 5-7 yrs to get to Associate and 3-5 yrs to get to Professor but it is dependent on a number of factors including research, teaching, national and international recognition, etc. Some people stay Assistant for 10 yrs, some never get to Professor. It depends on the institution and their promotion criteria.
