Question
I have to do a speech in my public speaking class about Propofol. I was just wondering if you could give me as much information about it that you could. Some of the questions that I was most curious about is how long it takes for propofol to go into effect, how powerful is it, the pros and cons of it, and can it only be administered in hospitals?

Thank you
Sarah

Useful history here
http://www.sivauk.com/joom/images/stories/york/abstracts/Propofol.pdf

It works quickly producing unconsciousness over a period of 60-180 seconds.

It can be administered anywhere... as we have seen recently, however it should only be used when
1. given by a trained individual who is capable of managing the unconscious patients airway with skill,
2. where there is full monitoring to measure patient vital signs whilst h patient is unconscious
3. where there is full equipment to support he unconscious patient e.g. means of providing oxygen and artificial respiration where necessary
4. where there is full resuscitation equipment and drugs immediately available.
This usually means in a hospital.
