Question
How long after a walking pneumonia diagnosis can my 3 yr old daughter safely undergo general anesthesia to have her adenoids removed and tubes put in her ears?  She needs to have the surgery due to chronic sinus infections she gets every 3 weeks or so.

Answer
While there are no firm criteria, there is general agreement that 3-4 weeks of no symptoms, like fever, cough, or sputum production, is a safe interval in which to proceed. Nevertheless, the skill and experience of your anesthesiologist will determine the final decision.
