Anesthesiology/Propofol

Question
Hello!

I am having an endoscopy done under propofol soon.

I am wondering how safe this is and if there are any risks. (pain, apnea, priapism, etc)

Also -- How will I feel after the procedure? Will I be able to attend meetings or social events later in the day?

Thank you for your help!

Ari

Answer
This can be very safe, but there are always risks. If you have medical problems this can increase the risk.
Having a trained anesthesiologist also is helpful in ensuring that risks of sedation are minimized.
Propofol is rapidly metabolized and you should be able to participate in low stress activities several after the procedure.

Best of luck
