Anesthesiology/Anesthesiology during kidney procedure

Question
My sister had an almost fatal overdose of a sedative prior to a previous surgery she has paradoxial reactions to most medication.  She needs a Laser to "blast" her 5mm kidney stone and they want to give her general anesthetic.  Is this necessary for the procedure?  Can she have a mild pain medication as opposed to the general anesthetic.  She has passed several stones in the past and has a high threshold to pain.  The hospital used narcan last time to 'bring her around' after they administered the pre anesthetic injection.  Any info would be appreciated.

Answer
The surgery can be done under spinal anesthesia. The most important thing is to talk to the anesthesiologist before the procedure to explain what has happened in the past. They can then develop an anesthetic plan that will be safe for your sister.
