Anesthesiology/Ankle surgery quick question

Question
Hello,

I've been told previously that I need to undergo an ankle surgery.  My question to you is, whether is it theoretically possible to use local/regional anesethesia (such as "ankle block" etc.) for my surgery?  It is rather a complex surgery, I assume it will last about 2 hours. I don't like general anesthesia since I usually throw up after I wake up, plus I recently read about its risks.

I'd really appreciate your input. Thanks in advance.

Answer
Dear Elad

The quick answer is yes. It can be done under spinal or regional anaesthesia. Spinal is quick and simple and commonly used by most anaesthetists. The regional technique is more specialised and done by less people.

Best of luck.
