Anesthesiology/Becoming an Anesthesiologist

QuestionI have been considering becoming a doctor all my life, but the reality of schooling has shocked me. I am sure I can handle the Amount of schooling, but the cost of schooling frightens me. How much debt did you have, and how long did it take to pay, and was it difficult to do so? I also have another question. Becoming an anesthesiologist, or any type of physician in general, will it allow adequate time for family? I would like to have a family in the future and I keep hearing mixed opinions about whether or not doctors have time. Please answer as I'm worried about my future. Thanks soo much!

AnswerThe costs CAN be exhorbitant but it depends in part on where you go to school and any financial aid you might get. If you go to state schools it is less expensive than private schools. You can expect to have between 40 and 100 thousand in debt. That seems like a lot but you will also be making a good salary so you can pay it off within 5-10 years. As for family, it depends on which specialty. All specialties have long hours but surgical specialties are the worse while some are almost 9-5 jobs.
