Question
Hi Dr. Levy
I am a senior in California and i plan to go to a state college and i have a few questions on becoming an anesthesiologist.
If i am not that strong in math, what are the chances of becoming a successful anesthesiologist?
Does the school that you graduate from, whether it is a California state university or UC, look better when applying for medical school?
I've read other questions, and you said it takes 10-12 years to become an anesthesiologist from high school. how could someone support themselves through those years and is it possible to start a family within that time?
What should i major in college?
Thank you for your time

Yes you can. You don't need to be a mathematician to be an anesthesiologist.

In general it doesn't matter as long as it is a good school and you do well.

It is difficult but most do it with loans and part-time jobs. Remember that during the last 4 years (as an anesthesia resident) you get paid a salary. And yes you can start a family but of course that will increase your expenses.

Anything you want as long as you complete all the prerequisite courses for medical school
